Hi, I'm Tom. Welcome to my site. Let me show you around.

Me

I’m a writer from the UK who writes to his son every day about parenthood from a dad’s point of view. I do this through journaling, a practice I have found to be an incredibly broad and dynamic way of storytelling. It’s also a lot of fun. I live with my family in Northampton, England.

Want to learn a bit more about me? Check out my ‘about’ page.

Book

Books

I’ve written three books that are out on sale. They're all part of the Adventures in Dadding series. Here they are:

Dear Dory: Journal of a Soon-to-be First-time Dad (book 1) tackles pregnancy from a soon-to-be dad’s point of view. You can download the first chapter for free here. Or, if you want to find out what readers are saying, you can check out the reviews on Amazon.

Dear Arlo: Adventures in Dadding (book 2) examines the first year of parenthood, which coincidentally ran in parallel with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Toddler Inc.  (book 3) tackles that famous stage of child development that tests every parent's resolve like no other.

The Search for Sanity: Life with a Two-Year-Old (book 4)

WARNING: I love to swear A LOT in my books.

Newsletter

Newsletters

Lessons in Dadding Newsletter

Every week (or so), you'll receive a lesson in dadding – a piece of tried, tested and timeless wisdom to help dads become better at adding. Mums, don't let the name fool you; this is for you as well.

Adventures in Dadding Newsletter

Every month, I send out a bite-size, scaled-down version of my dadding adventures. These emails are played mainly for laughs, as I focus on the aspects of parenthood that are likely to put a smile on your face – mainly at my expense.

Why do I do this?

Unfortunately, society demands that we receive a seemingly unlimited amount of traffic into our inboxes, vying for our attention – and quite often our wallets! I figured my newsletter would just be for easy-reading fun – a short and welcome distraction from an otherwise long and unwelcome-distraction-filled day.

You can subscribe to both here, and you can check out previous editions here.

Gift

Free Gifts (eBooks)

When I reached the decision to publish my journals, I never intended them to be viewed as guidebooks. However, I have since created a short series of free e-books aimed at dads. In them, I present a curated list of topics that feature advice, recommendations and tips on the first three phases of a dad’s parenthood journey.

Here they are:

A Dad’s Guide to Pregnancy

A Dad’s Guide to Labour

A Dad’s Guide to Newborn Babies

Mums, please also feel free to check them out. A lot of the advice featured in them is for you as well.

Resources

Resources

I maintain a page with useful resources, where you’ll find links to all my podcast interviews, guest articles I’ve written and anything else I think will be useful to you as parents or as individuals.

Midwife

Midwives

Without you, the human race wouldn’t flourish; it would dwindle. Here’s a small token of my appreciation for everything you do for our species.

Don’t consider yourself a midwife, but still deliver babies? Then the link is for you too. I use the term ‘midwife’ to denote any healthcare professional who oversees a baby’s emergence from the womb.
