TODDLER INC.

Toddlers are savages!

They scream, shout, rebel, slap, destroy, throw food and purposely withhold their love and affection – just to watch your soul snap and your spirit shatter. And all before 8 a.m.

And yet, they’re also misunderstood creatures: funny and beautiful – endearing little marvels that brighten up your day. But mostly they’re savages.

The Adventures in Dadding series continues with this highly entertaining third entry, captured by one dad and his journal. Blunt, honest and absurd – this is Toddler Inc.

Fantastic read from start to finish. Real and often comical insights into the life of a toddler, specifically how to attempt to look after one. I would definitely recommend this book to any parents out there with young children.

FAQ's

What is Toddler Inc. and who is it for?

Toddler Inc. is Book Three in my Adventures in Dadding series. It covers the first year of the toddler phase, from one to two years old. Like previous volumes, this book is for anyone who can relate to parenthood (in any way). In particular, though, parents who are raising a toddler, have recently raised a toddler or are about to raise a toddler will benefit greatly.

How is it different to Dear Dory and Dear Arlo?

With Toddler Inc., I’ve been able to settle into my role as a parent a lot more and enjoy it. Toddler Inc. reflects that. While humour is present in all my books, Toddler Inc. is by far the most fun I’ve had with the series, and I’ve been able to push the journaling format in new directions that involve taking a lot of creative licence. For example, the book opens with a fiction chapter that merges with the non-fiction memoir style that the series is known for.

But you've maintained the journalling format?

That’s right. I still find it’s the best way to offer a broader and richer insight into parenthood. Readers relate more deeply to something they are actually shown rather than something they’re merely told as if they’re listening to a teacher regurgitating facts and figures from the front of the class. It’s the classic storyteller’s maxim: show, don’t tell. Toddler Inc. embodies that.

Do you still swear a lot in this book?

Of course I do – what do you take me for? I would never let my work suffer from a withholding of authenticity. You get the whole me: the silly side, the serious side and the side that loves to drop F-bombs for fun.

Is your relationship still intact?

Somehow, yes.
